Coasteering @ Adrenaline Quarry,Cornwall

Coasteering:

The sport or activity of exploring a rocky coastline by climbing, jumping, and swimming.

Adrenaline Quarry true to it’s name really gets your blood flowing with it’s high octane thrills and spills.

The Fresh water coasteering experience gives you the oppertunity to swim in the wildlife haven of the old quarry, climb sheer cliff faces and take on a series of ever increasing high jumps! Don’t worry taking the plunge isn’t compulsory. We kitted up in our super warm wetsuits, harness equipment and Helmets and headed for the water with Elliot and Mark, who were going to be our leaders and guides for the session.  We found them both to be very encouraging and supportive without being in anyway forceful. They were even trying new flips from the platforms themselves, so we really were all in it together. The guides were really relaxed and helpful whilst also being super keen on safety, but not so intrusive that you couldn’t have fun. I would defiantly say we were in safe hands. The first jump was a breeze but it was defiantly easter to say so from down below, it’s surprising how much higher the ledges felt from the top..eeek!! As a little warm up we all had one go at demonstrating a good jump technic before heading over to the second platform.  There were a series for 4 jumps in total but the second proved to be the favourite. the Goldie locks jump I would say, just the right hight. From this jump we were allowed to attempt front flips, back flips, gainers, anything you fancy really. It was such fun to cheer each other on and to try something new also we all had a good laugh when one of us would land on our face, back or bum. The next jump was 9m high and now it’s starting to get real. Still super fun but defiantly not one for the fainthearted it really took some guts. The final jump was 10m high and not feeling the need to validate my masculinity I politely declined the offer.

We had a a great time tackling the jumps and made some new pals to who were also booked in the same time slot. After a couple of hours of climbing up the rocks and throwing our selves off with a variant of gracefulness we headed over to the blob.

A one of the kind for the UK the blob which I can only describe as a gigantic air cushion on the water uses two (or more) participants to fire each other into the water.

So basically, Get launched from a giant pillow by your “friend” in to the open water.

At first we had a kind of battle of the Blob. taking it in turns, one on one, to try knock each other off.

We then tried to get as many people on the blob as possible for a group Photo, this took quite a few attempts and sadly  we still didn’t manage to beat the record of 14 before we lost our balance and all slid off the side into the lake. Again huge amount of fun to be had here and the guides were really responsive to what we were enjoying and tailored the session to make it the best for us. 14107740_1293926950648018_4937897222041767794_o

The session is usually £40 per person, including all the kit you need and an experienced guide for 3-4 hours of swimming, climbing, jumping and being launched into the air from the Blob. We opted for the £50 Deal of the Coasteering and Blob + The Zip line (Usual price £12.50) saving us a few Squid. Adrenaline Quarry does offer a comprehensive amount of mix and mach deals that cover the Zip line, Giant Swing,Coateering and Axe Trowing, so I would defiantly recommend checking out the website for current offers for all those bargain hunters like myself. The only thing you’re going to need is your swim suit, a towel and some refreshments. Coasteering can be thirsty work. Don’t worry if you forget theres a small cafe on site too.

The minimum age for coasteering is 10 year with no upward limit so perfect for quality time with your Nanna….

The only other restriction on participating is You must be able to swim 50m comfortably and be in general good health to take part in the coasteering experience. And the good news is that it will go ahead in all weather conditions. As nasty as that may sound we had a mix bag of sun and showers and the rain was just as awesome as the sun. Don’t worry about the temperature, the wetsuit will keep you snug as a bug in a rug.
